Aims for 2013

Nothing Beats a Fountain Pen

I've put aims for 2013 rather than resolutions because resolutions always seem to get broken, usually within the first month of the new year. So perhaps if I call them something different then I just might manage to stick to them.

So here are my AIMS for 2013...

  • Become a registered childminder (at last)
  • Get my business (caroboutique) really flying
  • Teach my son how to swim (could come in handy on the boat!)
  • Start yoga (again)
  • Get my son ready for starting school
  • Spend more quality time with my children

and that's it, for now, no doubt I will add stuff along the way. So what about you, what are your aims for 2013?

Goodbye, Farewell

Goodbye, Farewell, Au revoir, Ciao, Shalom, Ja ne, Farvel, Dyw genes.

We are off on our holidays. A whole week on a boat with two little ones, wish us luck, I have a feeling we're going to need it!

See you in a week or so.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

What on earth is that I hear you ask?
Well it's a contraption that the OH made for our local pubs soap box derby. All put together with stuff found in the garden and one of my dining room chairs grrr.
It had no brakes, no seat belt and only two thin ropes to use for steering.

Luckily my other half isn't stupid and offered to pay one of the locals in beer if he would ride it instead. He happily agreed, men will do anything for beer! We did kit him out with my OH's bike leathers and helmet though.

The other entries, that stood out, included an exercise machine put on wheels and two normal bikes attached together by wood?! (which you can just about see behind our one)
It was a really fun day and lots of the locals came out to support it and we won, yey.  Although it wasn't that hard, our cart was the only one that actually made it  to the finish line without falling to pieces.

Step Away from the Hairdryer!

I have a confession to make...

'I hate having my hair done'.

Quite frankly I find the whole experience a complete and utter nuisance.
You go and tell them what you want and then they do the exact opposite.
I know my hair, I have lived with it for the last 27 years after all, I know what it likes and I know what it doesn't like but for some reason this girl standing behind me thinks that because she has know my hair for all of about 5 minutes she knows whats best for it.

Let me explain better, my hair is curly, infact curly isn't the right word for it, my hair is a thick tangled mane of crazyiness. I have finally, after much experimenting when I was younger, resigned to the fact that it cannot and will not be tamed. It does what it wants when it wants and I could spend my life fighting it or I could just live the quiet life and let it get on with it.

So you can understand why when I go into a salon I am only there for one reason and one reason only and that is to have a significant amount of it lobbed off to make it slighlty more managble. No I do not what to know about the latest free from frizz product, No I do not what to discuss the weather or where I am going on holiday this year and unless you are thinking of entering me into the next 'best bolognese dog competition', then keep that hairdryer away from me!

I clearly lack the female hormone that makes me enjoy pampering, maybe it's my tomboy side of me coming out again. Am I alone in this or do you also avoid hairdressers like the plague?
Now I must go I have to spend the next couple of hours washing out the copious amount of products from my hair!

Beautiful Blogger Award

We've had so many visitors to our house in the last couple of weeks, that I'm struggling to find the time for my blog. However I am slowly getting around to the meme's that I've been tagged in.

Todays meme is The Beautiful Blogger Award. I was tagged for this by the lovely Pippa, that I had the pleasure of meeting in person last month. Her blog is called A Mothers Ramblings and is a great read, so check it out.

The rules for this meme are as follows...

1. Thank the person who gave it to you and link back to their blog
2. Tell seven facts about yourself
3. Nominate seven people for the award and let them know why

So here goes with my 7 facts about me...

1) I have a Diploma in Indian Head Massage.

2) I'm a bit of a hippy at heart and have learnt how to build houses out of straw bales and clay.

3) I was in Mr Bean when I was a child. You know the one at the swimming pool and the little blonde girl fishes his trunks out of the pool. Yes that was me lol.

4) I use to live in a cabin at the bottom of my parents garden and I loved it.

5) I regularly use my Tarot cards to help me make desicions about my life.

6) I use to play Basketball for South East England.

7) I have moved house more times than my age.

I am going to tag these 7 people in this meme

'Quote of the Week' #2

It's Friday again, wow that came round fast! So it's time for this weeks 'Quote of the Week' and the theme is... LIFE.

So here's my entry
Image from Pinterest

There where lots of quotes that I could of used for this weeks theme but this was the one that seemed most relevant to my life at the moment.
I think that before you have children you have a life plan, it's all set out and you have targets of what you want to achieve by a certain time. You think you have it all sussed and then you have children. Any sort of life plan or routine goes flying out of the window but it doesn't matter because you have something so much more important to focus on now. You now have no other choice than to take each day as it comes because lets face it kids are unpredictable. These days if a manage to do the washing up, clean the clothes and hoover the floor all in one day I'm on a roll but I wouldn't change it for the world.

Now it's your turn to find a great quote and link back here. Want to know how this Linky works then click here.
I look forward to seeing what you find x

Have you succeeded?

A group of us were talking today about success and what they needed to do in their lives to feel like they have succeeded.
The men all related success to their careers, how much they earnt and what cars they drive. The woman however had a variety of different answers varying from raising children, having a career, helping other people and creating a stable home environment.

I beleive my father found the best answer to the question 'What is success?'.
When I was growing up he had a poster in our downstairs toilet  with the following quote on it and to me it completley somes up what success is...

To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882) American Essayist & Poet

So how would you judge success and do you feel that you have succeeded in life?

Success
